Introduction
Following the horrific 2020 bushfires which destroyed a large part of Australian land and families, this home, like many others across the country, was partially burnt down to ashes. The aim here was to rebuild the burnt part and turn it into a beautiful living space made to entertain its guests while making the best of the surroundings.
Process
This project presented a lot of technical challenges :
– The state of the house made it difficult to safely access to assess the extend of the
damages.
– The new structure had to be fire rated (BAL29).
– A new, enormous deck with 1km of hardwood planks was to be built and;
– Half of the roof had to be lifted and replaced using self supporting delta panels.
– Hybrid frames of steel and timber.
Fire Damage
Upon arrival and demolition we came across many structural elements that needed to be rebuilt as the fire had damaged them beyond repair, making them unsafe.
Steel Framing
The whole deck and Pergola structure had to be build out of steel to comply with the BAL 29 requirements. Our trained team welded new to existing and modified some existing structures to match the new design.
Heavy Lifting
On some jobs, everything can be carried by hand, this job with its very high roof and sloped land required to have a crane on site for 3 parts of the project!
