Introduction
We were approached by the builder of this project as his client wanted a high performance homes that follows Passive House principles and he wanted some guidance on how to achieve the client’s desired air tightness (2ACH).
Process
Following our advice, the builder opted for the install of an intelligent internal air tightness membrane (Intello) and an external weather proof membrane. Our knowledge allowed to rectify early on mistakes that were made when starting to build the frame. Our aim here was to meet the client’s and architect’s performance target while keeping to their budget.
Thousands of staples and air tight tape later, several problem solved and holes in the membranes fixed, double glazed windows and HRV installed by our team, it was time for the real test… With an aim of 3ACH the owner and architects were thrilled to see the blow door Test results to come under 0.95ACH.
Educating
Working with tradies and builder that have no experience in building energy performant homes is always a challenge. From preventing damaged membranes, to elements built in different orders and different ways, we always aim to help changing mindset and helping people wanting to make a difference better educate themselves on how to achieve better outcomes in their builds.
Efficiency vs Economics
We always work to meet our clients performance goals while being as cost efficient as possible and guide them to make the best educated decision.
Sharing Knowledge
Although we are experts at what we do we find there is always value into sharing knowledge and building relationships with our high performance construction
industry peers. On this project we worked closely with the architect and discussed product limitations such as minimum roof pitch.
Result
framing), weather tight and airtight membranes install. We installed big high quality uPVC Integra windows and installed Brinks Heat Recovery Ventilation system.
The final results for the airtightness were 0.95ACH 3x lower than our client’s goal, a great result for the team!
